Why Women Still Love Kama Perfume After 50 Years
There are some scents that do more than smell beautiful. They transport us.
The moment I smell Kama perfume, I am instantly taken back to the 80s. Back to my baby blue VW Beetle, windows rolled down, driving along with Cyndi Lauper blasting through the stereo.
Life felt carefree back then.
I lived in tie-dye hippie dresses that I used to buy over in Hawke’s Bay, and Kama perfume was part of my everyday routine. It wasn’t something saved for special occasions — it became part of who I was during that season of my life.
Funny how a scent can do that.
Years later, one little smell and suddenly you can remember not just a perfume, but a feeling. Freedom. Youth. Summer air through the car windows. Music too loud. Simpler days.
And I don’t think I’m the only one.
One of the things we love most in-store is hearing customers talk about the memories Kama brings back for them too.
So many people smell it and immediately say:
“Oh my goodness… my mum wears this.”
Or:
“My nana smelled exactly like this.”
You can almost see the memories flooding back as they talk.
That’s what makes Kama so special after all these years. It’s more than a fragrance. It’s connection. Memory. Comfort. Familiarity.
In a world where trends come and go so quickly, there’s something really lovely about a scent that has quietly stayed with us through generations.
And perhaps that’s why we still love it after 50 years.
Not because it’s fashionable.
Not because it’s new.
But because it reminds us of people we loved, moments we treasured, and parts of ourselves we never really lost.
And honestly… I still smile every time I smell it.
